Kenny Loggins Blasts Trump Over Unauthorized Danger Zone Use
Loggins Condemns Unauthorized Use
Musician Kenny Loggins has publicly condemned former President Donald Trump for sharing a bizarre, AI-generated video that uses his iconic song, “Danger Zone.” The video, which depicts an AI version of Trump attacking protesters, prompted a swift and direct response from the singer-songwriter.
“This is an unauthorized use of my performance of ‘Danger Zone,’” Loggins stated clearly. “Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately.”
The Controversial AI Video
The video in question was shared by Trump on his Truth Social platform. It features a computer-generated Trump, portrayed as a king, piloting a fighter jet labeled “King Trump.” The jet is shown dumping a brown substance, described by Loggins' team as “brown sludge,” onto a group of “No Kings” protesters. The entire clip is set to the high-energy soundtrack of Loggins' famous song from the movie Top Gun.
A Call for Unity Over Division
Beyond the copyright issue, Loggins took issue with the video's divisive nature. “I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us,” he said.
He continued with a broader message calling for unity: “Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together. We’re all Americans, and we’re all patriotic. There is no ‘us and them’ — that’s not who we are, nor is it what we should be. It’s all of us. We’re in this together, and it is my hope that we can embrace music as a way of celebrating and uniting each and every one of us.”
Legal Recourse and a History of Disputes
Despite Loggins' request, the video reportedly remains active on both X (formerly Twitter) and Trump’s Truth Social page with “Danger Zone” still featured. As the clip was not created directly by Trump's official campaign, Loggins' most effective path forward is likely to file copyright complaints directly with the social media platforms hosting the content.
This incident adds Loggins to a long list of musicians who have objected to the use of their music by Trump and his supporters. The situation is similar to a previous case where a Trump campaign spokesperson used Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” in a social media post. Beyoncé’s team confirmed that no permission was granted and threatened legal action, leading to the post's deletion.
