Google Tests New AI Tools Directly In Chrome Browser

Google continues its major push into artificial intelligence, with its popular Chrome browser being the latest product to get a significant AI-powered upgrade. Recent findings suggest that Google is testing new ways to integrate its powerful AI features directly into the browser's starting page, making them more accessible than ever before.

New AI Chips on the Horizon

According to a recent report from Windows Report, the latest test version of Chrome, known as Chrome Canary, includes experimental features that place two of Google's popular AI tools front and center. The plan appears to involve adding new "AI Chips" directly below the search bar on the New Tab page. These chips are shortcuts for two specific features: the AI image generator known as Nano Banana and the advanced "Deep Search" function.

A More Integrated AI Experience

The implementation seen in the test build aims to streamline the user experience. When a user clicks the Nano Banana chip, the standard search bar prompt changes to "Create an image of...," allowing for direct text-to-image generation. While the feature isn't fully functional in the test environment yet, it signals a clear intent to embed creative AI tools directly into the browsing workflow.

Similarly, the Deep Search chip provides a one-click method to engage a more powerful search mode for complex topics. This feature, which is already available within Google's AI Mode, is being made more prominent. Instead of needing to navigate to a separate mode, users can initiate a comprehensive, AI-driven search right from the start.

Google's Broader AI Strategy

This move is consistent with Google's ongoing effort to infuse its products with AI capabilities. The Deep Search feature itself received a major update during the summer, leveraging the power of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model to analyze vast amounts of information and generate detailed, cited reports on complex subjects. This advanced capability is available to subscribers of Google's AI Pro or AI Ultra plans.

Just last month, Google rolled out a significant update bringing Gemini to Chrome, which included adding the AI Mode icon to the New Tab page and introducing features like AI-powered page summaries. The addition of these new AI Chips is the next logical step, further lowering the barrier for users to engage with Google's increasingly sophisticated AI tools, including Nano Banana, which is also slated for integration with Search and Lens.
