Google Expands Nano Banana Image AI To Search And Lens
The popular AI image model known as Nano Banana, which first gained traction in the Gemini app, is now being integrated into more of Google's core services. Google has announced it is bringing the powerful image editing and generation capabilities of this model, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, directly into AI Mode in Search and Google Lens.
Nano Banana Arrives in AI Mode
Within Google Search's AI Mode, users will notice a new 'plus' icon in the bottom-left corner of the prompt box. This new menu provides access to your Gallery, the Camera, and a new option to "Create Images," distinguished by a banana emoji. When you select this, you can either generate entirely new visuals from a text description or upload an existing photo to make AI-powered edits. Similar to the experience in the Gemini app, any image generated features a small Gemini spark watermark in the corner and can be easily downloaded or shared.
A Creative Boost for Google Lens
The integration is even more prominent in Google Lens. Alongside features like Search Live, a new "Create" tab has been added. This function encourages users to capture, create, and share, with the shutter button even featuring the signature banana emoji. The Create tab defaults to the front-facing camera, making it easy to snap a selfie as a base for edits. Once an image is captured, it is automatically added to the AI Mode prompt box, where you can enter text commands to transform your photo.
Availability and Global Expansion
This new Nano Banana integration is currently rolling out to Android users in the United States who have opted into the AI Mode Search Lab. This feature launch coincides with a broader expansion of AI Mode itself. Google recently announced that AI Mode has been extended to 35 new languages and over 40 new countries, bringing the total to 200. You can view the full list of supported regions.
