On the morning of Monday, October 20, 2025, at approximately 8:39 AM, OpenAI's team identified a service disruption affecting user logins. The primary issue impacted Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities across multiple services.
The effects of this issue were threefold:
- Users were experiencing widespread login failures when trying to access impacted services.
- Access to the Help Center via SSO was also unavailable.
- There were reports of users experiencing issues receiving one-time code SMS messages required for authentication.
Upon identification, the engineering team immediately began working to implement a fix.
Service Recovery and Monitoring
By 9:43 AM, roughly an hour after the issue was first identified, progress was made. OpenAI reported seeing signs of recovery on the impacted services. At this stage, the team transitioned into a monitoring phase to ensure the applied fixes were stable and that services were returning to normal for all users.

At 10:10 AM, OpenAI confirmed that the incident was fully resolved. All services affected by the SSO login issue had completely recovered, and normal operations were restored. Users were once again able to log in, access the Help Center, and receive SMS codes without issue.
