In a world saturated with digital content, finding new ways to make your friends laugh in the group chat is a constant challenge. While you could use AI tools like Google Gemini or ChatGPT to create a bizarre image, the process of generating, downloading, and then sharing it feels cumbersome. Who has time for all those steps?

Google understands this and has introduced a new feature directly into Google Messages to streamline the process, making it easier than ever to create and share unique AI-generated pictures.

Unleash Your Creativity with Remix

Google Messages is rolling out a new feature called Remix. Powered by the Gemini image model, Nano Banana, this tool lets you take any image within a chat and transform it using AI without ever leaving the app.

Google suggests the possibilities are endless, from giving your friends virtual hairstyles to turning a photo of a pet into an action figure. The goal is to provide a fun and seamless way to get creative with your photos.

How to Use the New Remix Feature

Accessing the Remix tool is designed to be intuitive. There are a few ways to start generating your AI creations:

  1. From a message: Simply press and hold any image within a Google Messages conversation. A new Remix button, featuring a playful peeled banana icon, will appear. Tapping it allows you to start editing and generating a new version of the image.
  2. From the gallery: You can also find the Remix option when browsing your photos through the gallery interface inside Google Messages.
  3. From the camera: The feature is also available right after you snap a picture using the in-app camera, letting you edit it before you even send it.

When Can You Try It

If you've checked your Google Messages app and can't find the peeled banana icon, don't worry. According to Google's official announcement, the feature is currently rolling out, and its availability may vary.

To use the Remix feature, you must have your device's language set to English and be located in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States. The good news is that it appears this feature will be available on a wide range of Android phones, not just exclusive to high-end models like the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro.
