Kim Kardashian Blames ChatGPT For Failed Law Exams
It seems even celebrities are not immune to the pitfalls of artificial intelligence. In a revealing Vanity Fair interview, Kim Kardashian, who is currently studying to become a lawyer, opened up about her 'toxic' relationship with ChatGPT, admitting the AI tool has given her false information that led to failed exams.

A Costly Reliance on AI
Kardashian explained her study process, which involved using the AI for quick answers. “I use [ChatGPT] for legal advice, so when I am needing to know the answer to a question, I will take a picture and snap it and put it in there,” she said. However, this strategy quickly backfired. “They’re always wrong. It has made me fail tests… And then I’ll get mad and I’ll yell at it and be like, ‘You made me fail!’”
The Problem with AI Hallucinations
Kardashian's experience is a high-profile example of a well-known issue with Large Language Models (LLMs) known as hallucinations. Instead of admitting it doesn't know an answer, an AI might invent information that sounds plausible. This happens because the technology is designed to predict the next most likely word in a sequence based on its training data, not to verify factual accuracy. This exact problem has had serious consequences in the legal world, where some lawyers have been officially sanctioned for submitting legal briefs that cited non-existent cases fabricated by ChatGPT.
Pleading with a Machine
Despite the AI's shortcomings, Kardashian described her interactions with it in surprisingly human terms, even trying to appeal to its emotions—a futile effort since ChatGPT does not have feelings. “I will talk to it and say, ‘Hey, you’re going to make me fail, how does that make you feel that you need to really know these answers?’” she said. She shared its profound-sounding, if not entirely helpful, response: “And then it’ll say back to me, ‘This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts.’”
While the AI may not have feelings, humans certainly have feelings about it. Kardashian’s frustration is clear, as she admits to sharing her conversations with the chatbot. “I screenshot all the time and send it to my group chat, like, ‘Can you believe this b—- is talking to me like this?’” Her story serves as a cautionary tale about the current limitations of AI and the enduring need for human judgment.
