AI Weaponized in New Hampshire Stalking Case Arrest Made

An Albany man is in custody following accusations that he used generative artificial intelligence to create and distribute fabricated explicit videos of a person he was allegedly stalking.

Details of the Arrest

Joseph Roberts, 38, was arrested in late October on a series of severe charges. According to investigators, Roberts had been stalking the victim for approximately one year, escalating his harassment through the use of sophisticated AI tools.

A Disturbing Use of AI Technology

Police reported that Roberts utilized AI to edit existing photos and videos, creating deepfakes that falsely depicted the victim in sexual acts and other situations that never occurred. These fabricated videos were then allegedly shared without the victim's consent, leading to charges of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Roberts faces multiple counts, including three for the non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images, fraudulent use of fake photos and videos, stalking, and receiving stolen property. He is currently being held without bail pending a probable cause hearing this Thursday.

The arrest was the result of a joint operation involving the Conway police, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, and state police. Officials have stated that the investigation is still active and are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the Conway Police Department.
