OpenAI is quietly exploring new functionalities that could transform ChatGPT into a significantly more useful daily assistant in professional settings. These enhancements aim to improve its connectivity with your existing applications and even enable it to participate in live meetings.

Enhanced Connectivity with Model Context Protocol

One of the most exciting developments reportedly underway is potential ChatGPT support for the Model Context Protocol or MCP. This is an open-source standard designed to allow external applications to securely provide real-time information to the AI on demand.

Instead of requiring users to upload data or retrain the AI model MCP allows connected tools to temporarily supply ChatGPT with the necessary context. This enables the AI to complete tasks with greater precision and speed. Such a capability could empower ChatGPT to move beyond general question answering potentially revolutionizing many work environments.

Real World Applications How MCP Could Transform Industries

The practical applications of this technology are vast. For example in an engineering company ChatGPT could utilize live bug reports to assist in diagnosing and resolving technical problems. Within the finance industry it might access up-to-date market positions or internal financial projections to help draft client communications or produce summaries. In an architectural practice it could retrieve information from a design database to aid in creating project outlines or identify incomplete documentation.

These advancements point towards smarter automation processes quicker support and more precise insights.

ChatGPT Poised to Join and Record Your Meetings

In addition to app integration OpenAI seems to be developing features that could rival Microsoft Teams Copilot integration. A new Record feature specifically for live meetings is apparently in the works.

Hidden code in recent updates to the ChatGPT mobile app suggests the tool will be able to perform functions like recording live meetings. It will also be able to pause and resume audio capture and convert speech into text — essentially allowing ChatGPT to transcribe and summarize meetings on its own.

Prioritizing Privacy in Meeting Recording Features

When this recording feature is active users will reportedly be able to use a drag to talk function. They can also generate post-meeting summaries and get quick recaps of what was discussed. The app also asks for microphone and system audio access and includes reminders to get consent before recording — showing that OpenAI is accounting for privacy concerns.
