DeepSeek Unveils Major Chatbot Enhancement

Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek recently revealed a major update for its chatbot. This upgrade highlights significant progress in its abilities related to logic, mathematics, and programming, along with a notable reduction in generating incorrect or hallucinated answers.

The latest model from DeepSeek, named DeepSeek-R1-0528, features enhanced reasoning and inference capabilities. The company states that this model's performance is approaching that of leading AI systems such as OpenAI’s O3 and Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro.

Building on Previous Success

Earlier in January, DeepSeek captured significant attention in the AI industry with the launch of its R1 chatbot. This launch emphasized China's expanding influence in artificial intelligence. DeepSeek's initial model, created with a $6 million investment, offered performance comparable to high-end AI systems that were much more expensive to develop.

Significant Performance Gains Detailed

An official announcement highlighted the progress: “Compared to the previous version, the upgraded model shows significant improvements in handling complex reasoning tasks. For instance, in the AIME 2025 test, the model’s accuracy has increased from 70% in the previous version to 87.5% in the current version.”

This enhancement stems from more profound reasoning abilities. The updated model processes almost double the amount of information for each query. On the AIME test set, DeepSeek’s previous version utilized an average of 12,000 tokens for each question, whereas the new model averages 23,000 tokens. This allows for more comprehensive and precise problem-solving.
