The feud between Donald Trump and Taylor Swift continues to simmer. Trump recently directed another insult at the pop superstar via his Truth Social platform on Friday, May 16.

The Latest Salvo in an Ongoing Feud

This latest comment follows a post from eight months prior on the same social media platform where Trump expressed his dislike for the 14-time Grammy winner. In his new post, the twice-impeached former president stated, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'”

Billboard has reported that they have reached out to Swift’s representative for a comment regarding this recent statement.

Swift's Political Stance and Trump's Reactions

The insult appears to be unprovoked, as Swift has not publicly commented on Trump since she endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for president in September. Swift's endorsement of President Joe Biden’s vice president came after an AI-generated image falsely depicting the “Anti-Hero” singer endorsing Trump for a second term in office began circulating.

Swift addressed the fake image at the time, writing, “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

She concluded that message, which was accompanied by a photo of her with her cat Benjamin Button, by signing off as “Childless Cat Lady.” This was interpreted as a dig at comments made by Vice President JD Vance regarding Democrats who do not have children.

Five days after Swift announced her support for his opponent, Trump posted on Truth Social in all capital letters, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

From Admiration to Animosity: A Timeline

Interestingly, the relationship between Trump and Swift wasn't always characterized by such animosity. Trump, who in May 2024 was convicted of 34 felony counts in his hush money case, had previously expressed admiration for the singer-songwriter. In August 2012, he posted on X (then Twitter) to thank Swift for a photo, calling her “fantastic!” Months later, in October of that year, he congratulated her on co-hosting the Grammy nominations special, tweeting, “Taylor is terrific!”

However, Trump's opinion of Swift appeared to shift after she began to voice her political leanings in 2018. That year, she urged voters in Tennessee to vote against Republican Marsha Blackburn in the midterm elections. In response to this, Trump told reporters at the White House, “Let’s just say I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?” This marked a clear turning point, leading to the current state of open antagonism.
