Many are asking Where is the opt out button for AI How do I switch off AI Or am I destined to have AI and its associated problems imposed on me against my wishes The AI world has certainly arrived and it is doing a remarkable job of persuading everyone to accept AI whether they want to or not. It has infiltrated our phones computers software the internet and even cameras.

AI The New Marketing Obsession

AI is here and it seems you cannot simply switch it off. Try using Google or any other search engine and AI powered results are often presented as the primary information. Even if you attempt to sidestep major search engines to avoid AI many alternatives are now incorporating it too. Companies like Photoshop Google Microsoft Facebook Meta and Apple appear determined to make AI the central marketing point for all their new offerings. It seems their strategy is to just add AI to a product name and declare it the solution to every conceivable problem.

Personal Frustration With Forced AI

Frankly I am tired of this trend. I do not want AI. It does not benefit me my photography or my writing in any capacity. Yet voicing this seems to cast me as the outlier. As the famous movie line goes I am as mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore.

The Hidden Environmental Cost of AI

Tech companies promote their devices with AI from Google Meta and Microsoft often on the same page where they discuss their commitment to environmentally friendly production using recycled materials. However it is crucial to recognize that AI models whether for search results image generation or chat systems consume vast amounts of electricity to power massive data centers. These data centers can have a significant impact on the landscape (source 1). The water required to cool these facilities is also immense potentially harming local water supplies for nearby communities (source 2).

The Hypocrisy of Green Tech and AI

There is little that is environmentally friendly about current AI systems. And frustratingly there appears to be no off switch. Microsoft automatically pushes this software onto your computer and other companies install it on your phone with every new update. Every new phone from major brands integrates numerous AI features to help manage your life all while these companies claim they are trying to save the planet. A simple solution would be to provide an option to switch off AI. This way users could ensure they are not inadvertently contributing to environmental strain.

The Simplicity of Traditional Tools

It is a relief that most traditional cameras for photography operate differently from computers and smartphones. With a traditional camera settings and features are available when the device is powered on and disappear when it is off. There is no need to connect to a massive supercomputer system to capture a photograph. Why then is such a connection deemed necessary for phones or computers
