Apple Reportedly Making Siri A ChatGPT Rival
Apple's Big Siri Overhaul Aims for ChatGPT Parity
Apple is reportedly gearing up for a major transformation of Siri in the coming years. The goal is to elevate the virtual assistant into a formidable competitor against OpenAI's ChatGPT, as highlighted in a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Drake Bennett.
According to the report, Apple executives are actively pushing development teams to ensure the next iteration of Siri matches the capabilities of ChatGPT. Significant progress on this next-generation chatbot version of Siri has apparently been made over the last six months. Some insiders at Apple believe the new Siri is already "on par" with recent ChatGPT versions. Furthermore, Apple is reportedly considering giving Siri the ability to access the internet, allowing it to gather and synthesize data from various sources, much like ChatGPT currently does.
A New AI Foundation for Siri in Zurich
Gurman and Bennett also reveal that Apple has established offices in Zurich where employees are focused on developing an entirely new Artificial Intelligence software architecture for Siri. Developers are utilizing a "monolithic model" built completely on a Large Language Model (LLM) engine. This new LLM-based foundation is intended to replace Siri's current "hybrid" architecture, which is a complex mix of functionalities accumulated over time. The objective of this new model is to make Siri more conversational and enhance its proficiency in synthesizing information.
Expanding Apple's AI Horizons with Partnerships
While Apple is working on its own advanced Siri, the company is also exploring external AI solutions. It's anticipated that Google's Gemini AI will be added to iOS 19, offering an alternative to ChatGPT. Additionally, the Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly in discussions with Perplexity to integrate their AI service as another option for both Siri and Safari in the near future.
