Smartphones store a huge number of photos, and the average user has several thousand or even tens of thousands on their devices. As the number increases, it becomes increasingly difficult to immediately find a particular photo.
Galaxy S25 AI Supercharges Your Photo Library
In the Galaxy S25 series, the Gallery app automatically tags and categorizes various elements of photos, such as objects, people and places, allowing users to find desired images quickly and accurately. Keeping in mind that effective search depends on classification, the developers tripled the number of tag types compared to that of the previous Galaxy series, fine tuning the subject recognition capabilities in photos and tagging in the Galaxy S25 series.
"By developing an image analysis engine and using zero shot technology, we have improved performance to enable the Galaxy S25 series to recognize object data it encounters for the first time," says José Joaquín Urbina, Senior Director of Mobile Experiences at Samsung Central America and the Caribbean. "In the case of people, we have extended the analysis beyond facial features to include clothing, time and location, making it easier to group photos of the same person."
Samsung also set about improving the performance of natural language search in Gallery. The company developed a search model that reflects commonly used phrases and different application cases, allowing users to find the photos they want using natural, conversational phrases rather than word based searches.
Thanks to a language vision model that learns by associating images with text, they were able to use generative AI to automatically generate a wide range of phrases that users can enter. They also optimized and compressed the search model to run quickly on the device.
Effortless Video Creation with AI Auto Trim
While video is a popular form of media consumption, having video editing tools readily available and using them with ease is often not as simple as it seems. To address this, the Galaxy S25 series introduces a feature that makes editing much faster and more convenient thanks to enhanced AI based video analytics. The Auto Trim feature extracts key scenes from multiple videos chosen by the user to create a new short form video.
It was important for Auto Trim to be able to quickly analyze videos up to 90 minutes long, generate an edited video and adjust the length of that new video. The developers achieved this through close collaboration, seamlessly integrating Samsung Research's advanced technological expertise with MX Business' mobile optimization capabilities.
"We incorporated a feature that allows users to effortlessly identify key moments in videos, which require significantly more data processing than photos, and tailor the length of these edited segments to their preferences," explained Urbina.
"Getting Galaxy AI to identify highlights in videos with a level of sensitivity comparable to humans was a challenge, but by setting the standards together, Samsung Research and MX Business were able to significantly improve overall functionality."
The Future of Mobile AI Experiences
Gallery Search and Auto Trim are examples of how Galaxy AI improves everyday life. As developers continue to advance the company's image and video analytics technology, Samsung Electronics will offer an ever expanding range of new experiences that will make it easier and more intuitive for users to find and capture life's key moments.
