The service includes purchase buttons that redirect users to store websites; however, it will not allow completing the transaction within ChatGPT. Each week, ChatGPT processes over a billion web searches. Popular shopping categories frequently include beauty products, home furniture, and electronics. This new system operates somewhat like the Google Shopping interface, where a selection of products from various retailers is displayed. However, a key distinction is that, unlike Google, the results in ChatGPT are organic and not influenced by paid placement.

Personalized Shopping Tailored to You

The product selection for recommendations isn't based solely on keywords. Instead, it relies on a deep understanding of user reviews and various information sources. This approach aims to create a more conversational and personalized shopping experience. Users will have the option to specify the types of reviews they prefer, such as professional reviews versus user reviews from platforms like Reddit.

Revenue Potential and Future Plans

The introduction of the shopping feature in ChatGPT brings up questions about how revenue might be shared between OpenAI and content sites that produce product reviews. Currently, the company is focused on improving the user experience but does not rule out future revenue-sharing models from sales. This includes the AI agent "Operator," which can independently navigate web browsers and assist users with purchases.
