Mobile Apps

Adobe recently announced that its Firefly AI is now accessible through mobile applications for both iPhone and Android devices. These apps are available as a free download, enabling users to generate AI images and videos conveniently from their mobile devices. Additionally, the app includes a limited number of free generative credits, allowing users to try out Adobe's AI capabilities.

In addition to the mobile app launch, Adobe is broadening its collaborations with third-party AI providers, incorporating six new models from Ideogram, Pika, Luma, and Runway. Google's newest AI models are also being integrated, featuring the widely recognized Veo 3 AI video generation model, known for its native audio capabilities, and support for the Imagen 4 text-to-image model. Furthermore, Adobe's AI-powered moodboarding tool, Firefly Boards, has now been officially released after an extended beta period.

This article covers the key details of Adobe's latest Firefly AI enhancements. For further exploration, you might be interested in learning about some of the top AI image generators or understanding more about the current landscape of AI video models.

Dive Deeper With Firefly Mobile App Features

Adobe's Firefly mobile applications provide access to its AI-driven image and video generation tools directly from your smartphone. The development of a mobile app was a logical progression, especially after Adobe observed a significant rise in mobile web usage of Firefly following the introduction of its Firefly video capabilities in early 2025.

While not all Firefly features are part of the initial mobile release, key functionalities such as text-to-image, text- and image-to-video, generative fill, and generative expand are included. The app is currently available for download on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

AI Atlas

While the app download is free, full utilization requires a Firefly-inclusive Adobe subscription. To encourage users to explore its capabilities and potentially subscribe, Adobe provides 12 complimentary Firefly generation credits (10 for images and two for videos). These initial credits offer a brief trial to determine if Firefly meets your creative needs.

Subscription plans for Firefly begin at $10 per month, which includes 2,000 credits (sufficient for approximately 20 videos), with higher-tier plans offering more credits at increased prices. It's advisable to check your current Adobe plan, as you might already have Firefly credits included.

Expanding AI Horizons New Partnerships and Models

Adobe is enhancing its platform by integrating new external AI creative models. This includes image and video models from notable names like Ideogram, Pika, Luma, and Runway. Runway, for instance, gained attention for its collaboration with Lionsgate in developing custom AI for the entertainment industry. Ideogram, Pika, and Luma are also established AI creative service providers. Additionally, Google's Veo 3 AI video generator, with its innovative synchronized AI audio features, and the latest iteration of Google's AI image model are being added to the lineup.

Adobe's Commitment to Creator Rights with Third Party AI

This marks the second wave of third-party model integrations by Adobe. Previously, Adobe had collaborated with OpenAI, Google, and Black Forest (the developers of Flux) to incorporate their AI models. A key aspect of these partnerships is Adobe's AI policy: all third-party models integrated within Adobe's ecosystem must adhere to the rule that customer content will not be used for training their AI. This policy is uniformly applied, irrespective of the individual company's own data usage policies, and extends to the newly added models. This commitment offers a degree of reassurance for professional creators, a core segment of Adobe's user base, who may have concerns about AI data practices.

A Comprehensive Look at Available AI Models

Access to these external AI models requires a paid Firefly subscription; otherwise, users are limited to Adobe's proprietary models. The range of AI models accessible via Adobe now includes:

For image generation:

  • Adobe Firefly Image 3
  • Adobe Firefly Image 4
  • Adobe Firefly Image Ultra
  • Flux 1.1 Pro
  • Flux 1 Kontext
  • Google's Imagen 3
  • OpenAI's image generation model
  • (New) Ideogram 3
  • (New) Google's Imagen 4
  • (New) Runway's Gen-4 Image

For video generation:

Adobe's native Firefly AI models are developed using a dataset comprising Adobe Stock images and other licensed content. For detailed information, refer to Adobe's AI guidelines and its overall approach to AI.

Enhanced Collaboration with Firefly Boards

Among other updates, Adobe has officially launched its moodboarding tool, Firefly Boards, following its beta phase which began in April. Moodboarding is a creative process involving the collection and arrangement of various elements, such as colors and shapes, to define and visualize specific moods or aesthetic styles. This practice serves as an effective preliminary stage in planning content and campaigns.

You can use the infinite canvas to brainstorm and plan content. You can generate images and videos in Boards using Adobe and non-Adobe models; the setups are very similar to generating in the regular Firefly window. Boards are collaborative, so you can edit with multiple people. A new one-click arrange button can help you organize and visualize your files more easily, a much-requested feature that came out of the beta.

Firefly Boards are integrated with your Adobe account, enabling seamless workflows. For example, you can select an image within a Board, open and edit it in Photoshop, and these modifications will synchronize back to your Firefly Board typically within a minute. This ensures that you are always viewing the most current version of your files, without restricting editing capabilities to the Boards interface itself.
