A New Arrival for the Hamlin Family

NASCAR star Denny Hamlin recently shared heartwarming news about his expanding family. He and his fiancée, Jordan Fish, welcomed their new son earlier this month. Hamlin discussed the joyous occasion and shared details about his son's birth on June 11th, a date that holds special significance for him, during an episode of the Actions Detrimental Podcast.

When asked about his family, Hamlin confirmed, "They are doing good." He humorously added, "I’ll tell you, had I won this week, I would be on an unprecedented heater. I mean, I still probably am. On the track, off-track, we’re white hot right now."

Hamlin's "white hot" streak refers not only to the new baby but also to his impressive performance on the racetrack, having secured top-three finishes in his last three races, including a second-place at Pocono. The baby’s birth on the 11th of the month is particularly fitting for the Hamlin family, as Denny famously drives the No. 11 Toyota Camry.

A Serendipitous Birthday

"Trust me, we didn’t plan this to happen during Mexico City week or on the 11th," Hamlin clarified. He explained that Jordan visited the doctor on Tuesday, June 10th, and was advised to head directly to the hospital. By the time they were settled, only four hours remained until June 11th.

Hamlin shared their thoughts at the time: "We were thinking, ‘You know, it would be kind of cool to have a June 11 baby.’" He also revealed a surprising coincidence, "And I didn’t realize my first Cup win came on June 11 at Pocono. I didn’t realize until I saw the stat on NASCAR on Prime."

Reflecting on the birth, Hamlin mentioned, "The pushing for Molly, the pushing for Taylor was so much shorter. …This was a long, hard, hard labor for Jordan. It happened in the afternoon. It started in the morning of the 11th and went all the way to the afternoon before the little bugger came out finally."

The Naming Challenge and a Tech Savvy Solution

The proud parents named their son Jameson Drew Hamlin. However, Hamlin confessed that deciding on a name wasn't a straightforward task.

"He didn’t get a name until three days later," Hamlin stated. When questioned about the delay, the three-time Daytona 500 champion explained, "We used technology to simplify it." He detailed their process: they initially compiled a list of "12 names that we liked." Then, Hamlin’s niece ingeniously used ChatGPT, inputting the 12 names to "create a spreadsheet with all the combinations of these names."

This innovative approach yielded a list of 1,000 potential names from ChatGPT. Hamlin meticulously reviewed this extensive list, highlighting his favorites. The couple then turned to ChatGPT once more to further refine the selection, eventually narrowing it down to 38 names. Hamlin mentioned that Jordan then entrusted him with the final decision, leading them to choose Jameson Drew Hamlin.

The Meaning Behind the Name

Explaining the choice, the NASCAR veteran shared, "There was just too many JDs in my life to not have him be a JD." He elaborated on the first name: "The son of James, which is myself, is Jameson." As for the middle name, "I bounced around a bunch of different D names, and Drew just felt best to me. There’s no rhyme or reason behind that."
