LG Unveils AI Powered webOS Hub 3 For TVs
LG Electronics has officially rolled out webOS Hub 3.0, the latest iteration of its acclaimed TV platform designed for third-party television manufacturers.
Expanded Hardware Support
Currently, webOS Hub 3.0 is available for Ultra High Definition (UHD) TVs equipped with 60Hz displays. Looking ahead, LG plans to extend compatibility to 120Hz UHD TVs featuring mini-LED technology, with this expanded support commencing in July.
AI-Driven Enhancements
Central to this upgrade are significant AI-powered improvements. webOS Hub 3.0 introduces Voice Recommendation utilizing ThinQ AI, AI Picture capabilities enhanced by Neural Network Super Resolution, and AI Sound technology engineered to minimize noise and boost voice clarity for an optimized audio experience.
This new version boasts support for advanced System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, resulting in noticeable performance gains compared to its predecessor, webOS Hub 2.0. Further enriching the user experience are features like enhanced AI-powered picture quality, support for mini-LED local dimming (specifically for 120Hz models), versatile Multiview functionality offering Side-by-Side and Picture-in-Picture modes, an Always On Display feature, and cutting-edge connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 and Auracast Bluetooth audio.
Rich Content Ecosystem
Content remains a key focus, with webOS Hub 3.0 providing seamless access to a wide variety of Over-The-Top (OTT) services. Users can also enjoy LG Channels, the company's free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service, which has impressively expanded to offer 4,000 channels across 33 markets worldwide.
Strategic Vision and Partnerships
Chris Jo, head of the webOS Platform Business Center at LG Media Entertainment Solution Company, highlighted the strategic importance of this release. "The launch of webOS Hub 3.0 marks a significant milestone in four key areas: market expansion, technological advancement, enhanced B2B partnerships and future growth," Jo stated. He added, "By providing differentiated value, LG is positioning webOS as the platform of choice for global B2B partners."
Enhanced Gaming and Smart Home Integration
Gamers are also set to benefit significantly with features such as the Game Dashboard, Game Optimizer, and the brand-new Gaming Portal. The Gaming Portal offers an intuitive interface for browsing and playing games directly on the TV, eliminating the need for external consoles or devices. It provides access to a curated selection of cloud gaming apps, webOS app games playable with the TV remote, recently played titles, top trending games, editor's picks, and other personalized gaming options. Furthermore, the platform incorporates the Home Hub IoT solution, empowering users to create personalized smart home environments.
