Mark Hamill is not convinced that Donald Trump is a genuine Star Wars enthusiast.

Hamill on The View Discusses Trump's Star Wars Image

During a Friday episode of The View, the actor famous for playing Luke Skywalker was asked for his opinion on an AI-generated image. This image depicted a strangely muscular Donald Trump holding a red lightsaber, which the White House posted on social media in late April to celebrate May the Fourth.

Lightsaber Color Gaffe Pointed Out

Hamill certainly had critiques to offer. "Well, first of all, I thought: 'If he's a Star Wars fan, he should know he should be holding a green lightsaber,'" Hamill stated, shaking his head. "Not an evil red lightsaber!"

"Full of Sith" and Combating Antics with Humor

As the cohosts of The View laughed, the 73-year-old actor quoted his original social media reaction to the image, saying, "My comment was: 'Proof positive he's full of Sith.'"

Hamill went on to explain his belief that humor is the most effective way to counter Trump's unusual behavior. "I don't get angry and I don't drop F-bombs," he said. "I mean, I know I have a lot of kids that follow me, but I think to have fun with it, mock him — that's the kryptonite to malignant narcissists."

The White House's Controversial May The Fourth Post

May the Fourth, a date derived from the iconic Star Wars phrase "May the Force be with you," is a special day for fans to celebrate the franchise. Last month, the White House participated in the celebrations by sharing the image of Trump. The image also included two unusually large bald eagles and two American flags, neither of which are part of the Star Wars universe. The post was accompanied by an ominous message targeting political opponents.

The post read, "Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to to [sic] bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You're not the Rebellion—you're the Empire. May the 4th be with you."

The Significance of Red Lightsabers

While one might assume Trump's team chose a red lightsaber because he is a Republican politician, red lightsabers in Star Wars lore have historically been wielded by the Sith. They turn this blood-red color because they are imbued with the Dark Side of the Force. Famous users of red lightsabers include Darth Maul, Kylo Ren, and Darth Vader, the latter being a prominent leader of the Galactic Empire in the original trilogy.

Public Confusion Over Lightsaber Choice

Given these dark connotations, the White House's choice of color was met with widespread confusion.

"How do you not have one nerd on staff to tell you what color lightsaber is good and what color is bad???" one social media user lamented. Another asked, "Hey sorry, confused patriot here. Why does Trump have a red lightsaber?"

Perhaps a third user summed it up best when they added, "This account is so cringe."

The View airs weekdays on ABC.
