Bria AI Offers An Ethical Alternative To Image Generation
The world of artificial intelligence is currently facing an image crisis. From Hollywood's quiet use of AI to ongoing, contentious copyright battles in court, creators are finding themselves on uncertain ground. However, one company is charting a different course.
A New Model for Responsible AI
Bria AI, a text-to-image service, is positioning itself as a “responsible” generative AI platform. The company recently announced its latest model, which stands out for a critical reason: it was trained exclusively on fully licensed data. This means that unlike many competitors that scrape data from across the web, Bria's model is built on a foundation that respects creator rights from the ground up.
While this ethical approach results in a model with fewer parameters, the company asserts that its performance is comparable to other top-tier AI image generators. Yair Adato, CEO of Bria, explains, “While the industry races to build ever-larger models using scraped web data, we’ve proven that smaller, ethically-trained models can deliver equivalent performance.”
Performance, Accessibility, and Creator Rights
Bria is committed to transparency and collaboration, making its new model open-source and available on Hugging Face. This includes a full development framework, allowing users to leverage ControlNets, IP adaptors, and other tools.
This approach directly contrasts with the legal turmoil seen elsewhere in the industry, such as the ongoing court case between Getty Images and Stability AI over alleged mass copyright infringement. Bria's model is designed to avoid such conflicts entirely.
“Our new source code available model demonstrates that respecting creators’ rights and building efficient AI aren’t mutually exclusive—they’re complementary strategies that benefit everyone in the ecosystem,” Adato adds.
Building a Sustainable Creative Future
Bria's mission is to create a system where the artists, photographers, and creators who provide the data for AI models can share in the economic benefits. The company believes this fosters a healthier and more sustainable relationship between technology and the creative community.
“Every image generated by Bria represents a vote for a sustainable creative ecosystem,” says Vered Horesh, the company's CSO. “We’re proving that AI can amplify artistic work rather than exploit it.”
Developers and creators interested in exploring this ethical AI can find the new model on Bria's official website.
