Introducing Record Mode for macOS

Great news for productivity enthusiasts using macOS: OpenAI has rolled out an exclusive new 'Record Mode' for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This powerful feature is designed to help you capture and understand your meetings and calls with ease.

How It Works and What You Get

Getting started is straightforward. A new 'record' button is now available within the ChatGPT desktop app interface. After granting the necessary permissions for your microphone and system audio, you can capture the audio from any call or meeting directly on your Mac.

Once your recording is complete, the magic happens. The audio data is processed by OpenAI's servers to generate detailed, timestamped references, a concise summary, and a clear list of action items, turning your spoken conversations into organized, usable notes.

Key Limitations and Availability

It's important to be aware of a few key details. Recorded sessions are currently capped at two hours, and OpenAI has confirmed that the source audio file is deleted after processing for privacy. The company also wisely advises users to always obtain consent and be mindful of local recording laws before using this feature.

The generated transcripts and notes can be conveniently viewed in new chats, though you have the option to disable this. Initially, Record Mode is not available for Edu, Enterprise, and Team workspaces. While it's a macOS exclusive for now, there are hints it may expand to Windows and mobile platforms in the future.
