OpenAI Tests Major ChatGPT Upgrades For Work And School
OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of its popular AI, ChatGPT, by developing new features aimed at expanding its utility in both educational and professional settings. Recent test builds reveal two significant developments: a potential new study mode and enhanced integrations for its research assistant tool.
A New Way to Study with ChatGPT
An unreleased feature, currently labeled "Study Together," is starting to appear more frequently in recent test builds, after first being spotted in May. Although it is not yet functional, the name and context suggest it could be a collaborative tool for students.
This mode could allow users to prepare for exams with friends or use ChatGPT itself as an interactive study partner. While OpenAI has not released official details or a launch date, this move indicates a strategic shift toward more educational and collaborative applications within the platform, allowing students to engage with academic content directly.
Enhancing Research with Workplace Integrations
In parallel, OpenAI is enhancing its "Deep Research" feature, which helps automate information gathering and organization. A key update, discovered by researcher Tibor Blaho, is the testing of a Slack integration.
This connector would empower ChatGPT to access and analyze messages from a user's Slack workspace. This could be incredibly useful for creating internal summaries, drafting content, or generating reports based on existing team discussions. It remains unclear if this is a direct partnership with Slack or a feature built on public APIs, and it is still in a limited test phase.
Deep Research is also expanding to other platforms. References in recent builds suggest an upcoming Canva integration and early tests for a Gmail connector. If implemented, the Gmail feature would let ChatGPT search inbox content and create email summaries automatically, streamlining user workflows.
The Future of ChatGPT Workflows
These experimental features highlight OpenAI's strategy to position ChatGPT as much more than a simple conversational AI. As the company continues its work toward the highly anticipated GPT-5, these smaller tests provide a glimpse into the future of integrated AI workflows across both educational and professional environments.
