Modern dating is already a minefield, but a new complication is emerging: artificial intelligence. As one woman discovered, the charming person you're texting might just be getting a little help from a chatbot, leading to a jarring real-life disconnect.

The Suspiciously Eloquent Texter

A TikTokker named Yvette (@ambria.yvette) shared a frustrating dating story that has since gone viral. Before meeting a guy for a first date, she noticed something peculiar about his texting style. As she explained in a video, she suspected he was using ChatGPT.

"I’m only saying that because of the format of text," Yvette said. "Like, the format that he would text was like, a little different. It was always these dashes in between sentences. It was a little weird."

Despite her slight suspicion, the well-crafted messages made her excited to meet him in person.

A Tale of Two Personalities The Date

The excitement quickly faded when they met. The eloquent wordsmith from her phone was nowhere to be found. In his place was a man she described as nearly silent.

"This man is mute. Mute," Yvette recalled. "He had a thick accent but…it wasn’t even close to how he text. So I’m like okay, maybe he’s just nervous, I don’t know."

After the date, the texting resumed, but with a noticeable shift. His messages became more casual and filled with slang, a stark contrast to the formal paragraphs she received before.

"I feel like now that he was comfortable with me, he may have felt like, ‘Okay, now I’m comfortable. She’s seen how I talk or whatever.’ He started actually texting the way he talks," she explained.

The Truth Comes Out A ChatGPT Confession

The change was too significant to ignore. Yvette decided to confront him. "I’m like, ‘Hey, you’re texting a little different now. Was that you texting me before our date?’ He was like, ‘Yeah…like why wouldn’t…who else would it have been?’"

She pointed out the dramatic differences, from the paragraph structure to simple grammar changes like using "am" instead of "I am." Eventually, as she showed in a follow-up video, he admitted to using ChatGPT to help craft his initial messages.

"It’s just like no, babe. This is not gonna work for me," she concluded.

What Does This Mean for Modern Dating

The reaction online showed Yvette isn't alone in her concerns. Viewers expressed disbelief and shared their own thoughts on this new form of digital deception.

A TikTok comment reacting to the story.

One commenter noted, "Using chat gpt is crazy but him being dry in person is even crazier."

Another TikTok comment on the situation.

Another added, "So he catfished you with his personality."

A third TikTok comment.

The story serves as a bizarre but telling sign of the times. As AI becomes more integrated into our daily lives, it was only a matter of time before it infiltrated the world of dating, creating a new layer of complexity for singles to navigate.
