OpenAI is reportedly developing a new feature for ChatGPT called the Knowledge tab, which aims to create a centralized repository for information generated during user sessions. Based on code references, this new addition is expected to function as an integrated knowledge base, primarily targeting team and enterprise accounts.

A Centralized Hub for Team Knowledge

The upcoming Knowledge tab will likely be located in the ChatGPT Library, alongside the existing tab for AI-generated images. Its main purpose appears to be helping teams collect, manage, and share important information, files, or summaries produced in their conversations with the AI. This could significantly streamline workflows by creating a single source of truth for project-related data. It is not yet clear if users will be able to add information manually or if the system will automatically save relevant artifacts from discussions.

Enhancing Team Collaboration and Control

Code analysis has uncovered mentions of "reasoning effort" and "system prompt," which suggest that workspace administrators will have controls over how the knowledge base operates. These settings could allow organizations to establish specific guidelines or structures for the information being stored, ensuring consistency and relevance. For businesses, particularly those working on technical projects or creating support documentation, a shared knowledge space could drastically reduce redundant work and improve collaborative efficiency.

The Road Ahead for ChatGPTs New Feature

This development positions ChatGPT to compete more closely with similar features in other AI models, such as Claude's Artifacts Gallery. It aligns with OpenAI’s broader strategy of expanding collaborative and workflow-focused tools for its business clients. While there is currently no information on whether this feature will be available for personal accounts, its focus on team-based functionality is clear. The public release date for the Knowledge tab remains unannounced, but the discovery of in-app announcement hooks usually indicates that testing is in progress. OpenAI has not yet released an official statement regarding this new ChatGPT feature.
