Bring Your Photos to Life on X with Grok AI

Your experience scrolling through X is about to become more dynamic. The social media platform has rolled out an innovative new feature that allows users to transform any static photo in their feed into a short, animated video. This powerful tool is integrated directly into the app and is powered by Grok AI, marking another step in X's ambition to weave artificial intelligence into the core user experience. According to Elon Musk, the feature is launching first for iOS users, with an Android version expected to follow shortly.

This new capability operates under the Grok Imagine umbrella, which was recently made available for free to all users globally for a limited time. The move highlights X’s strategy to simplify AI-powered content creation and make it more accessible to everyone on the platform.

How to Animate Your Images

The process is designed to be seamless and intuitive. To create a video from a photo, simply long-press on any image within your X feed. A new option, “Make video with Grok,” will appear. Selecting this sends the photo to the Grok app, which handles the processing in the background. In approximately 17 seconds, a new video is generated. You can then add one of four available audio tracks before sharing it directly on the platform. This deep integration eliminates the need to switch apps or manually upload images to Grok.

What You Need to Get Started

To access this photo-to-video tool, there are a couple of prerequisites. You must have the official Grok app installed on your device and be logged into a registered account. As mentioned, the feature is currently live for iOS users. If you are on an Android device, you will need to wait for the upcoming release, which Elon Musk has confirmed is “coming soon.” Ensure your X app is updated to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play Store to get access as soon as it's available for you.

The Bigger Picture for Grok AI

This update is part of a series of enhancements for Grok. It follows the recent introduction of Auto and Expert modes in Grok 4 and improved PDF processing capabilities. Furthermore, Grok Imagine was also recently launched on Android, enabling users to create six-second videos from text prompts or images. Looking ahead, Elon Musk has already confirmed that the development of Grok 5 is underway, with a planned release later this year.

In a brief, unrelated event, the official X account for Grok AI was temporarily suspended on Monday due to an apparent violation of platform rules. The account was restored within about 15 minutes, with its proper golden verification badge and affiliation tag being reinstated shortly after users brought the issue to Elon Musk's attention.
