AI Farming Startup Orchard Robotics Secures 22 Million Funding
California-based Orchard Robotics, a pioneer in applying artificial intelligence to agriculture, has successfully closed an oversubscribed Series A funding round, raising an impressive $22 million. This significant investment is set to accelerate the company's expansion and further develop its precision agriculture platform.

The Challenge of Modern Farming Data
Founded in 2022 by former Cornell student and Thiel fellow Charlie Wu, Orchard Robotics was born from a simple yet profound observation: critical, multi-million dollar farming decisions were being made based on insufficient data. Wu noted that farmers often rely on manual inspections of a tiny fraction of their crops to make crucial choices about labor, inputs, and overall management.
"Solving farming is a data problem, and data is the bedrock of every farming decision," Wu explained. "But the lack of precise, actionable data is the bottleneck."
Orchard's AI-Powered Solution
To bridge this data gap, the self-proclaimed "AI farming company" developed an innovative solution. Their platform features an advanced camera system that easily mounts onto existing farm tractors. As the tractor moves through the fields, the system captures high-resolution images of the fruit. An AI engine then analyzes these images to provide detailed insights into crop health, yield predictions, and more.
This technology is complemented by a comprehensive farm management and system-of-record software, allowing growers to store, manage, and act upon the vast amounts of data collected. Orchard Robotics is already working with leading US growers of apples, grapes, blueberries, cherries, almonds, pistachios, citrus, and strawberries, providing them with unprecedented visibility into their operations.
Major Investors Back Data-Driven Agriculture
The Series A round was led by Quiet Capital and Shine Capital, with notable participation from General Catalyst and other investors.
Orchard Robotics founder Charlie Wu
Michael Bloch, a partner at Quiet Capital who will be joining Orchard's board, emphasized the transformative potential of the company's technology. He stated that farmers have historically been forced to make critical decisions "based on imprecise data." According to Bloch, Orchard is "providing the ground truth this massive industry has desperately needed, turning guesswork into data-driven precision. We believe they will become an essential partner for every modern farm."
A Booming Ag-Tech Robotics Market
Orchard Robotics' successful funding round comes at a time of high activity in the agricultural robotics sector. The industry has recently seen significant investments and acquisitions, including fundraises for companies like TRIC Robotics, Saga Robotics, and 4AG. Furthermore, strategic moves like Bonsai Robotics' acquisition of farm-ng and John Deere's purchase of GUSS Automation highlight the growing importance of automation and AI in modern agriculture.
Future Growth and Expansion
With this new injection of capital, Orchard Robotics plans to double the size of its team and establish a new office in San Francisco to support its rapid growth. This Series A funding brings the company's total capital raised to over $25 million, positioning it to make a lasting impact on how food is grown.
