Google Gemini AI Goes Global With New Cheaper Plan
The race to make powerful artificial intelligence accessible to everyone is heating up. Google is making a major move by expanding its affordable AI Plus plan to a global audience, targeting users in over 40 new countries.
Google's Global Push for Affordable AI
Google's new, more affordable AI Plus plan is now available in more than 40 countries, with a significant focus on emerging markets. The expansion includes nations such as Angola, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
After an initial launch in Indonesia earlier this month, the plan is being rolled out with a price point of around $5 per month in most locations. To further incentivize adoption, Google is offering a 50% discount for the first six months in select countries like Nepal and Mexico.
What's Included in the AI Plus Plan
For its budget-friendly price, the AI Plus tier offers a robust package of features, unlocking access to some of Google's most powerful tools:
- Advanced AI Model: Subscribers can use Gemini 2.5 Pro.
- Creative Suite: The plan includes tools for image and video creation like Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast.
- Enhanced Productivity: Users get expanded features on the AI research assistant NotebookLM and can use AI directly within Gmail, Docs, and Sheets.
- Cloud Storage: The subscription comes with 200GB of cloud storage.
The AI Subscription Race Heats Up
This expansion is a direct competitive response to OpenAI. The announcement comes just a day after OpenAI broadened the availability of its own sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia.
Both tech giants offer a standard $20 per month base plan, but these new, cheaper subscription tiers are a clear attempt to attract more paying users in parts of the world where a $20 subscription is too costly. Notably, India, where OpenAI first debuted its ChatGPT Go plan, is currently missing from Google’s list of new countries, suggesting a complex global strategy is at play.
