The CEO’s New AI-Powered Workflow

At the recent Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan shared some surprisingly candid insights into how AI is reshaping his daily work. He stated that AI is not just another feature update; it's fundamentally becoming the new language of business. Yuan's excitement for AI is palpable, suggesting it has reignited his founder's spirit. He now sees productivity through the lens of conversation, admitting, "More and more, I’m talking to ChatGPT."

For Yuan, AI is a practical tool that eliminates friction. He offered a powerful example: when he needs a slide deck for a board meeting, he no longer has to go through a lengthy preparation process or wait on support teams. Instead, he simply asks Zoom’s AI Companion, and the task is completed in seconds. This highlights a future where knowledge workers are freed from repetitive, time-consuming tasks to focus on strategy and people.

From Meetings to Intelligent Systems of Action

Zoom's mission is evolving beyond simple video conferencing into what Yuan calls a “system of actions.” In this vision, AI is deeply integrated into the entire meeting lifecycle. It works behind the scenes to prepare agendas before a meeting, generate summaries during it, and create actionable follow-up tasks afterward, pushing them directly into relevant workflows.

Looking further ahead, Yuan predicts that internal meetings could even be attended by our “digital twins.” These AI avatars would be capable of participating, answering routine questions on our behalf, and reporting back with key information. He suggested, “Very likely, you send your digital twin to join.” While critical customer-facing calls will still require a human touch, internal productivity is poised for a massive transformation led by these intelligent assistants.

Why Voice is the Next Productivity Frontier

While much of the current AI interaction is text-based, Yuan is convinced that the enterprise world is on the cusp of a major shift to voice-first interfaces. The future isn't about typing prompts; it's about speaking to our systems. He believes leaders will soon manage projects, draft documents, and analyze data simply by having a natural conversation with AI.

"Today, more and more, I do not text with ChatGPT. I’m talking to ChatGPT. This is happening already. Very soon, a similar experience will happen in the enterprise world as well," Yuan explained.

This transition is significant because voice is inherently human. It lowers the barrier to entry, removing the need to learn complex software interfaces and making powerful AI tools accessible to employees of all skill levels.

What This Means for Business Leaders

Yuan's message is a clear signal for IT and business leaders: the future of software is conversational. Clunky menus and endless clicks will be replaced by simple, spoken commands. The organizations that thrive will be those that embrace AI not merely as a tool, but as a core business partner. Key benefits include:

  • Faster Output: Routine administrative tasks can be completed almost instantly.
  • Smarter Meetings: AI handles the logistical burden of capturing notes, summarizing, and assigning action items.
  • Voice-Driven Productivity: Natural conversation becomes the primary way to interact with business systems.
  • Trusted and Scalable AI: Businesses of all sizes can leverage AI for cost savings and efficiency, provided it aligns with security and governance policies.

See the Vision at Zoomtopia 2025

Zoom plans to showcase this AI-first vision at Zoomtopia on September 17–18. The event will feature demonstrations of voice-first AI, digital avatars, and a federated AI approach that combines multiple models to deliver the best possible results. It offers a direct look at how Zoom is working to turn meetings into measurable outcomes.

If the CEO of a major tech company is already talking to AI to get his work done, it's time to ask what that means for your own workplace. The future is voice-enabled and AI-driven. The only remaining question is how quickly you'll adapt.
