OpenAI has announced a significant move to deepen its involvement in the education sector by hiring a product manager dedicated to education and learning. This new role will be central to shaping how ChatGPT’s capabilities are leveraged in classrooms, for career development, and to support lifelong learning.

The opportunity was highlighted in a LinkedIn post by Fabio Mori, who works in go-to-market at OpenAI. He shared his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “OpenAI is looking for a Product Manager, Education & Learning to help shape how millions of people learn with AI.”

Mori added, “Working on education at OpenAI has been one of the most inspiring experiences of my career, building products that empower students, educators, and lifelong learners around the world.”

The Vision for AI in Education

The person who steps into this role will be tasked with defining the product vision for education within ChatGPT. Their core mission will be to advance how humans learn with AI and to ensure that the tools developed result in measurable improvements in cognition and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

The product manager will have several key responsibilities to drive this vision forward:

  • Partnering directly with AI research teams to explore and enhance learning outcomes.
  • Collaborating across design, engineering, and go-to-market teams to ship new features tailored for education.
  • Working alongside external partners in academia, education, and workforce development to ensure AI tools meet the real-world needs of classrooms and workplaces.
  • Using data and direct user feedback to validate the impact of new features and guide the future direction of the product.

OpenAI's Commitment to Learning

OpenAI describes its ChatGPT product team as a “rapidly evolving, high-impact group” focused on creating safe and useful AI experiences. With education emerging as one of the most common applications for ChatGPT, the company is formalizing its commitment to this area. The user base already includes a wide range of students, educators, and professionals seeking to acquire new skills in a dynamic economy.

The company emphasizes that its education team aims to “deliver measurable gains in cognition and achievement.” This involves close partnerships with students, educators, and national leaders to ensure that all new tools are safe, effective, and widely trusted.

In his post, Mori concluded with a call to action: “If you’re passionate about learning and want to help define the future of AI in education, this is your chance.”
