Google Photos Gets A Major AI Boost With Veo 3

Google has just announced a significant enhancement to its popular Google Photos app, integrating its most advanced video generation model, Veo 3, into the photo-to-video feature.
This move follows Google's broader strategy of infusing its powerful AI models across its product suite, including services like Gmail and Drive. The photo-to-video capability, which allows users to animate still images, was only introduced about a month ago, and this rapid upgrade to Veo 3 signals Google's commitment to leading in generative media.
Veo 3 Brings Your Photos to Life
The core of this update is the switch from the Veo 2 model to Veo 3. This new model empowers Google Photos to transform your static pictures into dynamic, six-second clips with significantly higher quality and realism. Now, your favorite memories can be re-imagined with subtle, lifelike motion, adding a new dimension to your photo library.

Introducing the New Create Tab
To streamline access to its growing set of creative tools, Google is rolling out a new "Create" tab in the Photos app. This new section will appear alongside the existing Photos, Collection, and Search tabs at the bottom of the screen, serving as a central hub for all generative features.
To use the new Veo 3-powered tool, simply navigate to the Create tab, choose a photo you wish to animate, and select from two simple prompts: "Subtle movement" for a gentle animation or "I’m feeling lucky" for a more creative, AI-driven interpretation.
The app will then generate a short video clip that you can immediately share or save to your library. Google has noted that users will have a limited number of free generations each day. For those who want more creative freedom, higher limits are available to subscribers of the Google AI Pro and Ultra plans.
More Than Just Videos: A Creative Hub
The Create tab is not just about turning photos into videos. It also houses several other exciting features:
- Remix: This tool lets you transform your photos into unique artistic styles, such as anime, comic book, sketch, or 3D animations.
- Highlight Videos: You can now create montage videos by simply providing a phrase like "My trip to Paris" or "Fun times with Mom." The AI will then automatically select relevant photos and videos, set them to music, and produce a finished highlight reel.
- Classic Tools: Familiar features like collages, Cinematic photos, and Animations will also be accessible from within the new Create tab.
Availability and Access
Google has begun rolling out the new Create tab and the Veo 3-powered photo-to-video feature to users in the United States. While there is no specific timeline for a global release, it is expected to become available in other regions soon.
