Man Faces Charges Over AI-Generated Images

In a case highlighting the dark side of emerging technology, a man from Washington County is facing charges for allegedly using artificial intelligence to manipulate photos sourced from social media. State Police have identified the individual as 35-year-old Gary Norton of Argyle. He was arrested on Monday and now faces a total of twelve misdemeanor charges: six counts of unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image and six counts of third-degree obscenity.

Details of the Allegations

The arrest followed a complaint that prompted a police investigation. Authorities allege that Norton forged explicit photos of several individuals and then posted them on a public website, all without their consent. The investigation revealed that Norton allegedly took what police described as casual photos of numerous people he knew from social media platforms. He is then accused of using AI tools to transform these ordinary pictures into fictitious intimate images, violating the subjects' privacy and trust.

The Investigation and Arrest

According to the State Police report, Norton surrendered to authorities in Greenwich. Following his arrest, he was issued an appearance ticket for a court date scheduled for next month, where he will face the charges.
