Udemy, an AI-powered skills development platform, has acquired Lummi, a creative technology group that provides AI-driven design tools to accelerate and simplify the creative process.

Enhancing Courses with AI-Powered Creativity

Udemy’s instructors will be able to enhance their courses with custom illustrations, visual storytelling, and AI-generated content using Lummi tools. Founded in 2020, Lummi has been utilized by creatives on platforms like Canva, Figma, and Adobe Express. Following this acquisition, Udemy’s business customers can access Lummi Pro as an add-on to their existing enterprise and team plan offerings.

Strategic Integration and Future Development

Lummi will also become part of Udemy’s Innovation Studio, playing a crucial role in product innovation and tool development. Udemy states that this acquisition reinforces its dedication to offering instructors, learners, and enterprise customers expert instruction and the practical tools necessary for applying skills in real-world scenarios. This strategic move is considered a step towards Udemy’s broader objective of overhauling its Instructor Academy. This academy is envisioned as a suite of tools, including Lummi, Role Play, Assessments, and Labs, designed to make courses more interactive and pertinent to learners.

This announcement follows shortly after Udemy unveiled a new suite of AI Packages aimed at helping organizations and professionals develop AI fluency. An AI Readiness Package features 50 curated courses along with a structured introduction to AI concepts. Additionally, learners will have access to the Udemy AI Assistant, which offers real-time coaching and in-course support to aid in understanding the taught concepts and tools being taught.
