Research from the job search site Adzuna reveals that the number of available entry-level jobs has plummeted by nearly a third, a staggering 31.9 percent, since the public release of ChatGPT. This decline encompasses a wide range of roles crucial for starting a career, including junior positions, graduate schemes, and apprenticeships.

The data indicates that vacancies for graduates have hit their lowest point since the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, these foundational roles now represent only a quarter of the total job market, a noticeable decrease from 28.9 percent in 2022.

The sharp downturn isn't attributed to a single factor but rather a combination of technological advancement and economic pressures.
