A core focus of the M5 is its revolutionary 10-core GPU architecture. For the first time, each core includes its own Neural Accelerator, a design choice that dramatically speeds up GPU-based AI workloads. Apple reports over four times the peak GPU compute performance compared to the M4. This new GPU also features third-generation ray tracing, delivering a graphics performance boost of up to 45 percent over its predecessor. In practical terms, this means up to 30 percent faster graphics performance than the M4 and an incredible 2.5 times faster performance than the M1.

For Apple Vision Pro users, the M5 enables the rendering of 10 percent more pixels on its micro-OLED displays and increases refresh rates to 120Hz for crisper detail and more fluid motion.

Supporting these massive performance gains is the M5's unified memory architecture, which now offers a bandwidth of 153GB/s—a nearly 30 percent increase over the M4 and more than double that of the M1. This high-speed, single pool of memory is accessible by the entire chip, allowing devices like the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro to run large, complex AI models directly on the device.
With up to 32GB of memory, users can seamlessly run demanding creative applications like Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro at the same time, all while managing other tasks in the background. This enhanced memory fuels the faster CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, resulting in higher multithreaded performance and faster AI processing across the board.

The M5 chip also features the world's fastest performance core within its up-to-10-core CPU, which consists of six efficiency cores and four performance cores. This configuration delivers up to 15 percent faster multithreaded performance than the M4.
