Google Photos continues to establish itself as an essential application for Android users, largely thanks to a steady stream of innovative updates. The platform is constantly evolving with new capabilities, from Nano Banana integration to enhancements in its video generator. Now, a new discovery suggests Google is working on a feature that adds a fun, personalized twist to your photo library: an AI-powered meme generator.

Introducing the Me Meme Feature

Code discovered within Google Photos v7.51.0 points to a new tool tentatively named “Me Meme.” As the name suggests, this feature is designed to let you become the star of your own memes. The concept is simple yet powerful: you can select a popular meme template and then choose a photo of yourself, a friend, or a family member to seamlessly integrate into it. The result is a unique, shareable meme perfect for social media or dropping into a group chat at just the right moment.

How It Works and What You'll Need

To ensure the best results, the feature has a couple of key requirements. First, the reference photo you want to use must be backed up to your Google Photos account. This is a standard practice for features that rely on Google's cloud-based generative AI processing. Second, the app will recommend using a clear selfie where your face is easily visible. This helps the AI accurately map your face onto the meme template for a more convincing and humorous outcome.

Still in Development

The “Me Meme” feature is not yet publicly available. The onboarding image found in the app’s code shows the classic “This is fine” meme as an example, but the full list of supported templates remains unknown. It is also unclear if users will have the option to upload their own meme formats. This isn't Google's only venture into AI-driven humor; a similar AI meme generator for Gboard has also been spotted but has yet to be released.

It is important to remember that this information comes from an APK teardown, which involves examining pre-release code. Features discovered this way are still in progress and are not guaranteed to be released to the public. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
