Global advertising leader WPP has officially launched a self-serve version of its AI-powered marketing platform, WPP Open. The new tool, named WPP Open Pro, is designed to empower marketers to independently build, create, and launch entire campaigns with the assistance of advanced artificial intelligence.

An All-in-One AI Marketing Powerhouse

WPP Open Pro aims to streamline the entire marketing workflow, from initial concept to final execution, using a suite of automated tools. Marketers can leverage AI agents to develop comprehensive campaign strategies by drawing on WPP's proprietary data, partner insights, and broad industry information. Following the strategy phase, the platform assists in generating branded content tailored for various marketing channels.

To simplify deployment, users can publish their campaigns directly to major advertising platforms from within the system. For existing WPP Media clients, the tool offers an even deeper integration with WPP’s Open Media Studio, providing access to more sophisticated features for audience identification, bid optimization, and programmatic campaign management.

The AI Engines Powering Open Pro

The platform's creative capabilities are fueled by a diverse range of best-in-class generative AI models. For image and video generation, WPP Open Pro integrates Google’s Imagen and Veo, OpenAI’s DALL-E and Sora, and Adobe Firefly, among others. For text and copy generation, it relies on leading models such as Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Courting Small Businesses and New Markets

With this new offering, WPP is strategically targeting smaller enterprises and performance marketers who may not require the comprehensive, high-touch service of its traditional managed programs. The platform also presents an opportunity to expand its footprint within the organizations of its existing large clients.

"We often don’t service the entirety of a client’s business, so it gives us reach into business units and areas that we might not service already," explained Matt McNeany, who leads the Open Pro project at WPP. He noted that this move opens up a significant new market for WPP beyond its typical portfolio of Fortune 500 companies. "Now they can get access to professional-grade tools and AI capabilities, and do that in a pretty straightforward way."

Access to the platform involves a fee, with additional charges based on usage. WPP has not yet disclosed specific pricing details.

Strategic Partnership with Google

WPP Open Pro is being piloted with key clients, including Google. The launch follows a recent announcement where Google and WPP extended their partnership for five years, with a focus on advancing AI and cloud technologies for marketing. As part of this collaboration, WPP has committed $400 million to integrate Google AI tools into its WPP Open ecosystem.

A Key Move in WPPs AI Strategy

The introduction of WPP Open Pro is a major step in the holding company's broader strategy to leverage AI to revitalize its business. This follows last year's launch of WPP Open and its subsequent upgrade with Open Intelligence, a foundational LLM trained for marketing, as well as an integration with TikTok’s generative AI tools. The platform is already used by major brands like L’Oréal, LVMH, and Nestlé.

This launch is one of the first significant announcements under the leadership of new WPP CEO Cindy Rose, a veteran of Microsoft and Disney, who took over from Mark Read on September 1. Rose's appointment follows a challenging period for WPP, which faced profit losses and client departures. The new self-serve platform is seen as a crucial initiative to expand into new markets and drive revenue.

In a statement, Rose emphasized that WPP Open Pro’s accessibility will put the company’s powerful AI marketing tools "directly into the hands of a much wider array of brands and businesses."

A Competitive Edge in the AI Arms Race

According to one anonymous marketing leader at a global brand, WPP has been aggressively promoting the adoption of its WPP Open platform. McNeany expressed confidence in the new tool's competitive positioning, suggesting it surpasses what rival agencies currently offer.

"[We’re] taking our data assets, our partner data assets, our agentic capability, the generative partnerships that we’ve got with Google, OpenAI and so on…content automation, media activation, and bundling that up into one solution,” he stated.
