The smart glasses race is officially heating up. At its recent "Human x Car x Home" event in Beijing, Xiaomi unveiled its impressive new AI-powered smart glasses, positioning itself as a formidable competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses and signaling a new chapter in the evolution of AI eyewear.

Advanced AI Features on Your Face

On paper, Xiaomi's AI Glasses are a significant step up from the competition. Powered by the company's in-house Super XiaoAI assistant, these glasses pack a suite of futuristic features. Users can experience real-time translation directly in their line of sight and even make payments with a glance. According to a company post on Weibo, the glasses can scan a QR code and use voice confirmation to securely complete a purchase, a feature also highlighted by Road to VR.

The onboard 12MP ultra-wide camera isn't just for taking pictures. It allows you to capture hands-free photos and first-person videos using simple voice commands. Furthermore, the AI can identify objects in real-time and translate written text, making the glasses a powerful tool for navigating the world around you.

All-Day Power: Beating the Competition on Battery

One of the most significant advantages of the Xiaomi AI Glasses is their remarkable battery life. The glasses claim to run for up to 8.6 hours on a single charge from a 263mAh cell, which is more than double the 4-hour runtime of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses and their smaller 154mAh battery. This leap in endurance addresses a major weak point for current-generation smart glasses.

Design, Specs, and Availability

Despite their advanced tech, the glasses are incredibly lightweight at just 40 grams. They also function as open-ear headphones, providing stereo sound through five built-in microphones. A powerful Qualcomm AR1 chip and a Hengxuan 2700 co-processor work together to ensure smooth performance.

The design has been specifically tailored for Asian facial features, with temple arms that can pivot and tilt for a comfortable fit. This specialized design suggests that a global release may not be imminent. The glasses are also durable, with an IP54 rating for sweat and splash resistance.

For added style and function, you can get electrochromic lenses that shift their tint in just 0.2 seconds with a double-tap on the temple, as detailed in Xiaomi's press release.

Xiaomi is offering these glasses at a competitive price. The standard model is priced at CNY 1,999 (about $280), similar to the Ray-Ban Metas. The version with monochrome auto-tinting lenses costs CNY 2,699 ($375), and the color-tinting model is CNY 2,999 ($420). They come in three frame styles: Classic Black, Parrot Green, and Translucent Tortoiseshell Brown.
