Mistral Le Chat Gets A Major AI Upgrade
Mistral AI's chatbot, Le Chat, is receiving a significant update packed with five new features designed to enhance its capabilities. The update introduces a deep research mode, voice control, and a sophisticated image editing tool, all powered by a suite of specialized models including Voxtral for speech and Magistral for advanced reasoning.
Dive Deeper with Advanced Research
The standout feature is the new Deep Research Mode, a powerful tool that brings Le Chat in line with competitors like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok. This function allows Le Chat to tackle complex questions by breaking them into smaller, manageable sub-tasks. It then scours multiple online sources to compile a structured and comprehensive report, complete with references. You can see a demonstration of the feature here.
While these research tools are incredibly useful for quickly gathering information or getting an overview of a new subject, it's important to remember that the generated reports can sometimes contain inaccuracies or pull from inconsistent sources. They are best used by experts who can verify the main points while benefiting from the accelerated sourcing process.
Enhanced Voice and Image Capabilities
Le Chat now supports direct voice input, thanks to the integration of the Voxtral model. Mistral claims this new voice mode is engineered for low latency and natural-sounding speech, making it ideal for brainstorming ideas or taking notes hands-free. A demonstration of the vocal mode is available to watch here.
For tasks that require complex logic and reasoning, a new "Think Mode" leverages Mistral's powerful Magistral model.
On the creative front, the image editing tool has been significantly upgraded in partnership with Black Forest Labs. This feature allows users to modify generated images with simple text commands, such as removing objects or altering scenes, while preserving the image's core elements. This is likely powered by Black Forest Labs' advanced Kontext models.
Better Organization and Access
To help users manage their work, a new "Projects" feature has been introduced. This allows for the organization of conversations, files, and settings into dedicated workspaces. The platform automatically saves the tools used within a project and allows for easy file uploads, making it particularly useful for long-term and complex tasks.
All of these new features are now available on the Le Chat web platform at chat.mistral.ai and through the official iOS and Android applications.
