Ever wonder how the creators of ChatGPT use their own groundbreaking technology? In a revealing episode of the official OpenAI podcast, key employees from OpenAI pulled back the curtain on their personal usage, offering practical tips and fascinating insights.

Streamline Your Commute with Voice Prompts

Nick Turley, the head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, shared a unique productivity hack for his morning commute. He uses ChatGPT's voice feature to talk through his thoughts and organize his day.

"On my way to work, I'll use it to process my own thoughts," Turley explained. "With some luck... I'll have the restructured list of to-dos by the time I actually get there." He noted that while the voice feature still has some "kinks" to iron out, he finds the act of articulating his thoughts aloud incredibly valuable and looks forward to its improvement.

Prepare for Meetings with AI-Powered Research

For Mark Chen, OpenAI's chief research officer, the chatbot is an essential tool for meeting preparation. He utilizes its deep research capabilities to get up to speed before conversations.

"When I go meet someone new, when I'm going to talk to someone about AI, I just preflight topics," Chen said. He praised the model's ability to contextualize who he is, who he is meeting, and what topics might spark an interesting discussion.

Dine Smarter with Menu Analysis

Podcast host Andrew Mayne, who previously worked on ChatGPT, has a practical tip for dining out. He takes a photo of the menu and asks the AI for assistance.

"I take a photograph of a menu and I'm like, 'Help me plan a meal or whatever, I'm trying to stick to a diet,'" Mayne shared. However, Turley quickly added a word of caution: don't try this with the wine list. "It keeps embarrassing me with hallucinated wine recommendations, and I go order it and they're like, 'Never heard of this one,'" he admitted.

How OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Uses ChatGPT

This trend of integrating AI into daily life extends to the very top. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is a frequent user, joining other corporate executives in leveraging AI for daily tasks. He has mentioned using it for "boring ways," like summarizing long documents and emails.

More recently, Altman revealed a more personal use case: parenting. He shared that he uses ChatGPT "constantly" as a father, primarily to research childhood developmental stages. "Clearly, people have been able to take care of babies without ChatGPT for a long time," Altman joked. "I don't know how I would have done that."
