Rapper BabyChiefDoIt Defends Using ChatGPT For Songwriting
BabyChiefDoIt, one of the most exciting new talents in the Chicago rap scene, has found himself at the center of a heated debate after a recent interview went viral. The controversy began when the rapper admitted to using ChatGPT to assist in his songwriting process, leading to significant disappointment and backlash from his fanbase.
The ChatGPT Confession
Fresh off his meteoric rise this year, which landed him a coveted spot on the XXL Freshman list, BabyChiefDoIt made a candid admission that has since caused an uproar. During an interview with Power 105.1, the drill artist revealed his use of the popular AI tool. "I've been using that sht to write my lyrics, real sht," he stated. "That sh*t works."
He clarified that he didn't "use it exactly how it was written," but rather used it as a source of inspiration, saying, "it was some, you know, some sh*t that I could pull out of." Despite this clarification, the revelation did not sit well with many listeners, tapping into a growing anxiety around the role of AI in creative fields.
Fan Backlash and Industry Concerns
The reaction was swift and severe. As the interview clip circulated online, fans and critics voiced their concerns about authenticity and the future of music. One fan commented, "Using AI like this will lead to the downfall of the entire music industry. Where is the creativity?" Another added, "Man I’d rather write bars off the dome than do sh*t like this. Where’s the soul & personality to the lyrics? Where’s the authenticity?"
The backlash was so intense that someone, possibly a member of the rapper's team, was heard advising him on his public statements. "We gotta make sure we always position things from the drivers seat. We don't wanna make it seem like you're not a real writer and lyricist cause you are. People think you got ghost writers now... We never wanna discredit ourselves," the person warned.
BabyChiefDoIt Claps Back
In response to the controversy, BabyChiefDoIt claims his comments were blown out of proportion. The rapper behind the hit "Went West" took to his Instagram Story to defend his artistic integrity. As captured by Complex, he argued, "If ChatGPT was the solution 2 all my problems Y in the absolute f#ck would I give yall the sauce."
He followed up by trolling his critics, posting a screenshot of himself asking ChatGPT to call him the "dopest writer" who doesn't need AI assistance to write his own lyrics.
This unfortunate situation has cast a shadow over what should be a celebratory time for the artist, who was recently featured on Chance the Rapper's new album, STAR LINE, on the standout track "Drapetomania." The incident highlights the ongoing tension between technological tools and traditional artistry in the music world.
