The First Attempt A General Response
Our initial prompt to the AI was straightforward: “Please review Sam’s Club’s current flyer and online sales. Then generate a list of the store’s best fall deals this year.”
However, the response was more general than specific. ChatGPT listed categories of items you might find on sale, such as wreaths, Halloween candy, baking staples, and laptops, but it didn't provide concrete deals. The AI explained its limitation, noting that Sam’s Club’s website blocks automated browsing, which prevents it from pulling specific prices and SKU information directly from the flyer in real-time.
Refining the Prompt for Better Results
Unsatisfied, we switched to a more advanced version of the AI designed for in-depth analysis and tried a similar prompt. This time, it produced a bulleted list with items, prices, and sale end dates. The catch was that most of the information came from third-party sources rather than Sam's Club directly.
When questioned, the chatbot clarified that while it can pull information from the official site, it sometimes uses reputable roundups to bypass the retailer's bot checks. We then specifically requested that it only use official Sam's Club pages and focus on items people typically buy during the fall, such as back-to-school supplies and home decor.
