TikTok AI Brings Still Images To Life
With its new AI Alive feature, TikTok now empowers users to transform still photos into animated stories using simple text prompts and a variety of creative visual effects.
TikTok Introduces AI Alive Animate Photos with Text
TikTok has launched a new feature named AI Alive, which allows users to convert static images into dynamic short videos. This innovation means creators no longer require advanced editing skills; instead, they can utilize AI to generate movement and effects with just a few taps on their screen.
How AI Alive Works
To use the feature, users access the Story Camera and select a static photo. They can then type a description of how they want the image to change. For example, they might instruct the AI to make the subject in the photo smile, dance, or tilt forward. Following the prompt, AI Alive animates the photograph, employing creative effects to produce a more engaging and lively story.
Moderation and Transparency Measures
TikTok has stated that its moderation systems are designed to review the original image, the AI prompt provided by the user, and the resulting video before it is displayed to the user. A subsequent check is performed before any post created with AI Alive is shared publicly. To maintain transparency, every video made with this tool will include an 'AI-generated' label and C2PA metadata.
AI Alive in the Competitive Landscape
This new tool stands out as one of the initial built-in AI image-to-video features available on a major social media platform. While platforms like Snapchat and Instagram already provide AI-powered image generation from text, and Snapchat is reportedly working on a similar image-to-video capability, AI Alive marks a significant step for TikTok in this domain.
Other Upcoming TikTok Features
In addition to AI Alive, TikTok is also reportedly developing support for sending photos and voice messages via direct message. This functionality is something that rival applications have supported for a considerable time, and its addition would enhance TikTok's messaging capabilities.
